OLD TIME ROLLS
1 pkg. yeast
1 c. warm water
3 tbsp. sugar, heaping
3 c. flour, unsifted
3 tbsp. shortening, slightly rounded
1 tsp. salt
1 egg

In large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, shortening, salt, egg, and 1 cup flour. Beat for 2 minutes. Add remaining 2 cups flour and beat until dough crawls up beaters.

Cover with wet towel and let rise in warm water. Place for 1 hour, or until dough doubles in bulk. Punch down. Pour onto floured board and knead until easy to handle. Shape as desired. Place in pan and let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees until brown. Suitable for freezing. Serves 10.
