OLD FASHION DANDELION WINE | |
1 qt. dandelion blossoms (stems removed) 4 qts. water Boil above 30 minutes. Let stand until cool. 1/2 c. very warm water 1 lb. seedless raisins 6 c. (3 lbs.) sugar 1 lg. orange, leave skin on 1 lemon, skin on Stir daily for 2 weeks. On last day let sit, add 1 cup rum (vodka). Bottle and seal. Makes approximately 3 bottles. Place dandelion blossoms and four quarts water in a kettle or Dutch oven, boil 30 minutes. Strain to remove blossoms, then strain through cheesecloth into large stone or glass crock. Let stand until cool, then dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup very warm water. Add yeast mixture, raisins, sugar, orange and lemon (cut up in small pieces) to dandelion mixture. Let stand for two weeks stirring once each day. Strain through cheesecloth several times until clear. Add rum (vodka). Pour into 3 clean wine bottles. Seal. Let stand 2 weeks and serve. Will keep in cool storage several years. Gets better with age. |
