POOR MAN'S FRUITCAKE
2 cups gumdrops, cut up (omit black ones)
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped nuts
15 oz. pkg. raisins (or less)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup applesauce

Line 2 loaf pans, 9x5x2-inches with waxed paper.

In a bowl, combine gumdrops, nuts, and raisins with 1/2 cup flour. Toss to coat. Set aside.

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla.

Mix flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, salt, cloves, and nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Stir in gumdrop mixture.

Divide equally into pans. Bake in slow (275°F) oven for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Cool in pans.

Remove paper, wrap in foil. Store in a cool place. Chill before slicing.

Note: Can be baked in a lined 4x10-inch tube pan for 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Been looking for this recipe for years. It is an old, old, recipe and my husband loved it! Neighbor gave it to me and I couldn't find it.
