ICEBOX COOKIES 
1 c. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. dates
1/2 c. nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter and add sugar gradually. Add eggs and beat well. Add vanilla. Sift together dry ingredients and sprinkle 1/4 cup of the mixture over the dates and nuts. Add remainder of dry ingredients and dates and nuts to creamed mixture, forming a stiff dough. Form into rolls 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Roll each in heavy wax paper and chill for at least 2 hours or longer. Cut into thin slices. Place on greased cookie sheet 1 inch apart at 350 degrees, preheated, for 10-12 minutes.
