GRANNY'S SAUERKRAUT CAKE 
2 1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Hershey's cocoa
1/2 c. sauerkraut, well drained
2/3 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
3 eggs
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. water

Sift flour and measure, add soda, baking powder, salt and cocoa; then sift again. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; add vanilla and eggs, one at a time while beating well on medium speed. Add dry ingredients alternately with the water, beating until smooth. Add sauerkraut and mix thoroughly. Pour into greased and floured pan 9x13x2 inch or 2 9 inch rounds. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Frost with chocolate icing.
