CANDY CANE COOKIES 
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. almond or peppermint extract
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. red food coloring
1/2 c. crushed peppermint candy
1/2 c. sugar

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix powdered sugar, butter, shortening, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Stir in flour and salt. Divide dough into 2 halves. Tint 1/2 with red food coloring. Twist the 2 halves together. Bake until light brown. Immediately sprinkle with candy and sugar on top.
