BUTTERSCOTCH BREAD PUDDING 
3 c. milk
2 c. stale but soft bread
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp butter
2 eggs, well beaten
1/4 c. chopped dates
1/3 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla

Scald milk; cool. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into a greased casserole, set in pan of hot water. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Serve with cream if desired.
