INDIAN FRY BREAD | |
6 c. flour 1 tbsp. baking powder 1 tbsp. salt 1/2 c. shortening Mix above ingredients; then gradually work or knead in about 1/2 cup of water at a time until very well set, but not too sticky. Let set for about 10 minutes. Makes about 10 balls of dough. Roll out one at a time and fry in about 4 cups shortening. My friends in Mescalero, NM, gave me this recipe and since they never measure, you may want to adjust the measurements a little BUT I found they worked fine for me and I am so appreciative of getting this recipe as this bread is so popular and SO GOOD with honey or just by itself when they serve it hot at Bingo Mescalero! Thanks to Faye and Nell! |
