BAKED APPLE DUMPLINGS
Select about 8 to 10 good cooking apples. Peel and cut into halves, removing cores.

DOUGH:

1 pt. or 2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda

Sift and work in 1 heaping tablespoon shortening. Add sweet milk to make a soft dough. Roll into sheet about 1/4 inch thick. Cut 2 halves of apples, putting 1 or 2 teaspoons full of sugar and cinnamon to taste in between the halves. Place dumplings in baking pan and pour the following over them: 1 cup sugar dissolved in about 3 cups boiling water, heaping tablespoon butter, and cinnamon to taste. Bake until apples are tender in a 350 degree oven.
