POLKA - DOT CAKE 
1 1/4 c. chopped dates
1 c. hot water
3/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
16 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. nuts

Mix the dates and hot water and let it set aside to cool. Cream together butter and sugar and beat until fluffy. Sift the flour, soda and salt together. Add the creamed mixture alternately with date mixture. Mix well after each mixture. Stir in vanilla and 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Put in greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Top with rest of the chocolate chips and nuts. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
