APPLE OR RHUBARB CRISP 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/4 c. oatmeal
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. water
3 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix first five ingredients together and put half on bottom of a 9"x13" pan. Place the apples (about 5) or rhubarb on next. Boil the next four ingredients until clear (may be done in the microwave, 4 to 5 minutes). Pour over fruit. Add rest of crumb mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
