1/2 gal. tomatoes, canned
8 slices of bread
1/4 c. sugar
Salt & pepper
Butter

Heat tomatoes in a big enough kettle. Add seasonings. Add torn up pieces of bread to soak up juice and serve. This was an inexpensive dish for a large family.
