ALMOND CROWN CAKE 
1/3 c. ground walnuts
3 tbsp. light brown sugar
2 c. flour
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk
2/3 c. melted and cooled butter

Combine 1/3 cup ground walnuts and 3 tablespoons brown sugar. Butter a tube pan and coat with the mixture.

Into a bowl sift 2 cups flour, 1 3/4 cups sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

In another bowl mix 1 beaten egg, buttermilk (cooled) butter and almond extract. Beat in flour mixture until batter is smooth. Turn into pan. Bake at 350 degrees 45 minutes to 1 hour. Cool on rack completely before removing from pan.
