ONION-CARAWAY-RYE CRACKERS | |
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. rye flour 2 tbsp. instant minced onion 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. caraway seed 1/4 c. shortening, at room temperature 3/4 c. water 1 egg white Coarse salt In medium bowl mix well the flours, onion, baking powder, salt and caraway seed. Stir in shortening until well blended. Stir in water until smooth dough forms. Add more water if necessary to stick dough together. Divide in half; cover and let stand at least 10 minutes. Place half the dough on lightly greased 17 x 14 inch baking sheet and roll out to edges of sheet. Dust with flour to roll dough out without sticking. Brush with egg whites then cut to size cracker desired. Sprinkle with seed and salt. Bake in middle of oven in preheated 400 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove to rack to cool. Repeat for second half. |
