ORANGE CROWN CAKE | |
1 c. shortening 1 1/2 c. sugar 4 egg yolks 3 c. cake flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. orange juice 4 tsp. freshly grated orange peel 1 c. chopped almonds 1/4 tsp. cream of tartar 4 egg whites 1. Cream shortening and sugar well. 2. Add egg yolks. 3. Add dry ingredients alternately with orange juice. 4. Fold in peel and almonds. 5. Beat egg whites and tartar until stiff; fold into batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes. Yield: Two 9 inch layers or 1 tube cake. 6. Top with cream cheese icing and decorate with whole almonds (optional). |
