BUTTERMILK PLAIN CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 c. sifted plain flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. plain buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
3 lg. or 4 sm. eggs

Cream shortening and sugar well. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk and flavoring. Add eggs one at a time; mix well after each addition. Bake one hour at 350 degrees.
