BROWN SUGAR LOAF CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
2 c. light brown sugar
1 egg white
4 egg yolks
2 2/3 c. cake flour
1 c. milk, sweet or sour
1/2 tsp. baking soda or 3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
1/2 tsp. cloves

Cream the butter and the sugar. Add the yolks one at a time, then the egg white. Beat well. Use soda with sour milk or baking powder with sweet milk. Mix the dry ingredients. Add alternately with the milk. Sprinkle nuts with some of the flour, add a little salt and fold in last. If dough is too thick, add 2 tablespoons water. Bake in loaf, 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
