BUTTERMILK COFFEE CAKE 
2 c. sifted flour
2 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. sifted flour
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Stir together flour and brown sugar. Cut in butter, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Save 3/4 cup of this for topping. To remaining mixture add 1/3 cup of flour, mixing well. Add egg, buttermilk, soda and cinnamon; mix only until dry ingredients are moistened well. Turn into buttered 9" square pan. Mix together the reserved sugar mixture and the chopped nuts, sprinkle over top of batter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 50 to 55 minutes. Let cool in the pan and cut.
