CHRISTMAS EVE CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 c. water
1/4 c. cocoa
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 lg. eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. cocoa
6 tbsp. milk
1 box (1 lb.) powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Sift sugar and flour together. Bring shortening, butter, water and cocoa to a boil in saucepan. Pour over flour mixture while still hot. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla. Spoon into a large baking sheet with sides. Bake in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Ice cake while hot.

FROSTING: Combine butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Add powdered sugar, vanilla and nuts; mix well.
