BROCCOLI AU GRATIN | |
1 slice dry bread, buttered 1/2 c. cubed Swiss cheese 1 c. med. white sauce 1 bunch broccoli or 2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen broccoli, cooked & drained Break bread into blender container, cover, blend at medium speed until crumbled. Empty onto wax paper, set aside. Start blender at medium speed. While blender is running, tip center cap and gradually add cheese, blending until grated. Empty onto another sheet of wax paper, set aside. Prepare medium white sauce. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Put half the broccoli into buttered 1 quart baking dish. Add half the sauce. Sprinkle with half the Swiss cheese. Repeat layers. Sprinkle top with bread crumbs. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. MEDIUM WHITE SAUCE: 1 c. milk 2 tbsp. softened butter 2 tbsp. all purpose flour 1/4 tsp. salt Dash pepper Put all ingredients into blender container in order listed. Cover and blend at high speed until smooth. Pour into small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Makes about 1 cup. |
