CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE 
1/3 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 squares (2 oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled
1 egg
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
9 walnut halves

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla and cooled chocolate. Add egg, beating well. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with 3/4 cup water, beating after each addition. Spread batter into a greased and lightly floured 9x9x2 inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate pieces. Arrange walnut halves over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
