VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP 
4 pieces beef shortribs, cut in half
1 tbsp. shortening
2 qts. water
1 onion, chopped
Salt and pepper
Garlic salt
1/4 c. barley
1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 (16 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
4 med. potatoes, quartered
4 med. carrots, quartered
1/4 c. shell macaroni

Brown ribs in shortening; add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until vegetables are tender.
