1 qt. milk
2 c. bread cubes
1/4 c. butter
2 eggs
1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Few grains nutmeg
1 c. raisins (optional)

Scald milk; add bread cubes and butter. Beat eggs, add sugar and salt. Add milk mixture and vanilla to eggs and sugar. Pour into baking dish and sprinkle with nutmeg. Place baking dish in pan of hot water. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes or until inserted knife comes out clean. If desired 1 cup raisins may be added to mixture before baking.
