BUTTERMILK CAKE 
6 eggs, at room temperature
3 c. sugar
1 lb. butter
3 3/4 c. flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 c. buttermilk at room temperature
1 tbsp. flavoring (rum, vanilla, almond)

Cream butter, sugar and eggs for 5 minutes. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder; add to batter mix. Mix soda and butter together, then add to batter mix; stir 5 minutes, mix well. Pour into 2 tube pans well greased and floured. Bake 1 1/2 hours or until well done at 325 to 350 degrees. Remove from pan and pour on glaze while cake is still warm.

BUTTERMILK CAKE GLAZE:

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 c. walnuts
1/4 c. water
1/2 tsp. flavoring

Place water, sugar, butter and flavoring in saucepan. Bring to a boil 2 minutes, remove from fire. Add walnuts and stir, pour over warm cake.
