MRS. L. E. FAGGART'S APPLESAUCE CAKE | |
1 c. Crisco 3 c. sugar 2 c. applesauce, unsweetened 4 c. plain flour 2 c. raisins, chopped 1 c. walnuts, chopped 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. cloves Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Add applesauce, then the sifted dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Fold in raisins and nuts. Bake in tube pan that has been greased and floured for 1 1/2 hours at 350 degrees. If icing is desired, use a caramel glaze and pour over cake. GLAZE: 1 stick butter 1/2 c. light brown sugar 1/4 c. evaporated milk Bring to boil and boil 1 minute. Remove and cool to lukewarm. Add 1 1/2 to 2 cups powdered sugar. If too thin, as for glaze and you want icing, add more powdered sugar. |
