GUM DROP COOKIES - ORANGE SLICES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine the above ingredients. Beat with electric beater. Measure out 2 cups sifted flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon baking powder and sift together. Cut orange slices with scissors dipped in flour. Lightly flour the orange slices but shake off excess flour. Use about 1 pound orange slices.

Measure out 2 cups quick cook oatmeal (uncooked) and 1 cup shredded coconut. Combine all ingredients. Stir by hand. Roll the dough by hand in little balls the size of a walnut; lay on cookie sheet. Dip fork in sugar and flatten lightly, each ball.

Bake 8 minutes at 375 degrees to 400 degrees. You know your own oven temperature best. HINT: Let cookies cool briefly on cookie sheet, they will hold together better.
