GRANDMA'S SODA BREAD 
4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1 3/4 c. buttermilk
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar

Mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and baking soda. Add buttermilk and raisins. Knead lightly on a floured board for 3 minutes until smooth and velvety.

Form into a round and place into a buttered pan or on a buttered cookie sheet. Cut a cross on top with a sharp floured knife. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Bread should sound hollow when tapped on bottom with knuckles. Cut in thin slices.
