SANDWICH SPREAD | |
1 pt. green tomatoes, ground (press juice out before measuring and boil in salt water until tender) 2 sweet red peppers 2 green peppers 6 sweet cucumber pickles 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. vinegar 2 tbsp. flour 3 eggs 2 tbsp. prepared mustard 1 c. sour cream Mix tomatoes, peppers and sweet pickles, ground and drained. Boil together the sugar, vinegar, flour, mustard, sour cream and eggs. Mix all together, boil and seal. This is the spread that the kids used for sandwiches for school when they went to country school back in the Thirties. Peanut butter, sandwich spread and jelly was all they could afford. |
