CAKE
 
1 lb. raisins
2 c. water
1 c. cold water
2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. shortening or lard
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda in hot water
4 c. flour

Boil raisins and water steadily for 15 minutes; add rest of ingredients. Bake about 1 hour at 325 degrees in tube pan. Test for doneness.
