OLD KENTUCKY NUT CAKE 
3/4 c. shortening (half butter)
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 2/3 c. flour, sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. black walnuts, chopped

Cream shortening and sugar together. Beat in eggs thoroughly. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk and vanilla alternately with flour mixture. Add black walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees (in oblong pan) 35 to 40 minutes.
