CRANBERRY BARS 
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
2 c. rinsed fresh cranberries
1/4 c. orange juice
1 tbsp. grated orange peel
1 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped walnuts

Combine sugar and water in saucepan, bring to a boil. Add cranberries and cook until they pop. Add orange peel, juice, butter, cinnamon and salt. Cook 5 more minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat and add walnuts. Set aside to cool.

DOUGH:

2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. softened butter
3 c. oatmeal

Sift flour, salt and sugar. Cut in butter with pastry blender until coarse in texture. Add oatmeal and mix thoroughly. Put 1/2 of the dough in ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan, patting firmly. Spread filling and top with the rest of the dough. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until lightly browned.
