ASPARAGUS CASSEROLE
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. cracker crumbs
4 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. flour
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. salt
Red pepper to taste
1 jar (18 oz.) Cheez Whiz spread
2 cans (16 oz. each) asparagus, drained
1/2 c. sliced almonds

Melt 1/2 cup butter. Add cracker crumbs, mix and set aside. In saucepan, combine 4 tablespoons butter and next 5 ingredients. Cook over medium heat until smooth. (Best to make white sauce then add the rest.) Place half buttered crumbs in 2 quart baking dish. Add asparagus and almonds. Pour sauce over top. Sprinkle with remaining crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Editor's Note: White sauce is made by melting butter, adding milk and cooking while stirring until butter, flour and milk make a smooth sauce. Serves 8.
