CHERRY SQUARES 
1 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, well beaten
2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 can cherry pie filling
Powdered sugar (optional)

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat after each addition. Add vanilla and lemon. Stir. Mix flour into mixture. Spread batter into a greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Cut surface of batter into 12 equal squares.

In the center of each square put a tablespoonful of the pie filling. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes. Do not overbake. After baking cut again into squares. Cool. Remove from pan. If you desire, sprinkle with powdered sugar before cooling. When serving you can cut each square in half.
