SO LONG SOUP "SEATTLE TIMES" 
1 lb. split peas
1 lb. link sausages, cut in half
1 stalk celery, diced
1 med. onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, mashed
1 tsp. basil
Sm. amount chopped parsley
9 c. hot water
4 carrots, sliced
2 potatoes, cubed
2 tsp. salt
Pepper

Place first 8 ingredients in large soup kettle. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and cook, covered for 2 hours at a low simmer, stirring occasionally. Remove sausages, cut in 1/2 inch slices and return them to the pot. Add carrots, potatoes, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat 30 minutes or until carrots and potatoes are tender. Stir often.
