GERMAN POTATO SALAD 
1 lb. bacon
1 lb. onions, diced
5 lb. potatoes
1/4 lb. butter
1 pt. cider vinegar
1/2 pt. water
Salt, pepper and sugar to taste

Boil potatoes then peel and dice, place in large bowl or pot. Dice bacon and dry. Drain bacon and place grease in pan, along with butter and onions. Saute the onions. In another fairly large pan put water, vinegar, salt, pepper and sugar (about 1 1/2 cups of sugar); warm this for about 15 minutes. Add the bacon, the vinegar mixture and the onions. Stir. Pour over the diced potatoes and serve warm.
