PLANTATION BARS 
2 c. light brown sugar
1/2 lb. butter
2 eggs
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder

Melt shortening over hot water. Mix sugar well with melted shortening. Beat eggs slightly and add to sugar mixture, then stir in vanilla. Add flour mixture (flour, salt, baking powder) a little at a time until all is used. Add chopped nuts. Pour batter into a greased floured oblong (13 x 9 x 2 inch) pan. Bake for 30 minutes at 325 degrees. Do not over bake. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Yield: 4 dozen bars.
