CHEESE STRAWS
1 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. (4 oz.) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 c. butter
3 tbsp. cold water

Combine flour and baking powder. Cut in cheese and butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle water evenly over flour mixture; stir with a fork until ingredients are moistened. Shape into a ball.

Use a cookie press to shape dough into 2 1/2 inch long strips, following manufacturer's instructions, or roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface, and cut into 2 1/2 x 1/2 inch strips.

Place strips on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes or until crisp. Place on wire racks to cool. Yield: about 5 dozen.
