Cream together:

1 1/2 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening

Add:

2 beaten eggs

Then add:

2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Pinch in small balls, roll in sugar and bake on ungreased cookie sheet about 1 1/2 inches apart in a moderate oven, 350 degrees, for 8 to 12 minutes. Makes 7 dozen cookies.
