DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sifted Swans Down cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 1/3 c. sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2-3 sq. Baker's chocolate, melted
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour once, measure, add soda, salt and sift together 3 times. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each; then add chocolate and blend. Add flour alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Turn into two 9 inch layer pans, lined with paper and greased. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
