VEGETABLE BEEF SOUP 
1 lb. ground beef
1 med. onion, chopped
1 c. potatoes, diced
1 c. carrots, sliced
1 1/2 c. cabbage, shredded
1 lg. can tomatoes, cut up
1 lg. (13 oz.) can tomato sauce
3 c. water
1-2 tsp. salt and pepper to taste
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp. basil
1/4 tsp. thyme

Brown beef and onions together; drain. Combine remaining ingredients in large pot. Add beef and onions. Simmer until vegetables are tender, approximately 30-45 minutes. Makes 2 1/2 quarts of soup.
