OLD-FASHIONED PIE CRUST | |
1 1/2 c. flour Dash salt 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 c. lard, cut into pieces 1 egg 3/4 c. water Sift together the dry ingredients. Add the lard and blend with pie blender until mixture is mostly small crumbs. Beat the egg and add it to the water. Use this mixture to moisten the dry mixture. Add it to the dry, a small amount at a time, and mix well with fork or hand for good distribution. Continue adding the liquid and mixing until the dough feels like it will all stick together when pressed into a ball. If it will, it is not necessary to use all the liquid. The dough should be rolled out to about a 1/8 inch thickness. Use as desired. |
