KAASSOHOTEL
1/2 c. butter
1 loaf sliced sour dough bread
2 (8 oz.) Gouda cheese (red wax covered)
4 eggs, lg.
2 c. milk (whole is better)
Nutmeg (optional)

Butter bottom and sides of a deep baking dish. Lightly butter one side of about 12 to 15 slices of bread.

Slice the cheese into 1/4 inch or thinner slices. Place a piece of cheese on the buttered side of each piece of bread. (Use more than one piece if they are the end pieces, cheese should be toward end of bread.)

Stand the slices of bread on end in the casserole in a circle so the cheese and bread alternate. (Cheese on the upper end of the bread)

Beat the eggs and milk together and pour into the center of the dish. (Do not pour over tops of bread.) Bake at 350 degrees for about one hour. If bread gets too toasty, lay a piece of foil lightly on top. It's done when the custard in the center is set.

The bread should be toasted with cheese melted down into the center.
