WHITE WALNUT BARS | |
2/3 c. shortening 3/4 c. brown sugar 3/4 c. white sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 1/2 c. flour, scant 1 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4-1 c. black walnuts 1/2 lb. white raisins Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs one at a time. Beat well. Add vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients. Mix and add raisins and walnuts. Using as little flour as possible, shape into 6 long strips the length of a cookie sheet. Roll out strips onto cookie sheet and flatten to about 1/4 inch in thickness. Brush top with beaten egg. Bake 13 minutes at 350 degrees. Do not over bake. When cool, cut into 1 1/2 inch slices. |
