GRANDMA'S RED CABBAGE 
3 c. shredded red cabbage
2 med. unpeeled apples (cubed, 1 3/4 c.)
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. water
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
2 tbsp. bacon drippings or salad oil
Dash caraway seeds

Combine all ingredients, cover tightly and steam until cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. (More vinegar may be added for a tart flavor.) Serves 4.
