MONTEREY JACK (A THICK SOUP) 
2 thick slices bacon
1 med. onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 can kidney beans
2 or 3 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped, or 1 can
1 tsp. chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 lb. sharp Cheddar cheese

Fry bacon until crisp and remove from pan while cooking remaining ingredients. Heat rest of ingredients until cheese melts. Add crumbled bacon. Serve with garlic bread.
