APPLE DUMPLINGS 
9 oz. box Jiffy pie crust mix (or make your own crust)
5 - 6 largely sliced apples
butter
Favorite spice
2 tbsp. sugar (or according to tartness of apples

Prepare crust mix, divide into 6 or 7 parts. Roll about 5 inches square. Place sliced apples on center of crust. Dot with pat of butter. Add dash of favorite spice. Sprinkle about 2 tablespoons sugar on top of apples. Fold crust up over apples and hold together with toothpicks. Place dumplings into cake pan (10 x 13 inches or so).

TOPPING:

1 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. water
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Let come to boil and pour on top of dumplings. Bake 35 minutes or until brown at 350 degrees. Baste occasionally. Delicious apples aren't good for dumplings; use tart apples such as winesaps.
