OLD-FASHIONED BUTTERSCOTCH
COOKIES
 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening (the recipe calls for lard)
2 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3-4 c. flour to make stiff dough
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
Walnut meats

Cream brown sugar and shortening. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, cream of tartar and soda and add to creamed mixture. Add nutmeats. Form dough into a roll and chill overnight. Slice quite thin and bake in 350 degree oven.
