BAVARIAN APPLE TORTE 
CRUST:

1/2 c. butter
1/3 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 c. flour

FILLING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 c. sliced, peeled Granny Smith apples
1/4 c. sliced almonds

Cream butter, 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla. Blend in flour. Spread dough onto bottom and up 1 1/2" around side of 9" springform pan.

Combine softened cream cheese and 1/4 cup sugar; mix well. Add egg and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla; mix well. Pour into pastry lined pan. Combine 1/3 cup sugar and cinnamon. Toss apples in sugar mixture. Arrange apples over cream cheese layer in decorative pattern. Bake in 450 degree preheated oven for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees and continue baking 25 more minutes. Cool before removing rim of pan. Sprinkle with sliced almonds which have been sauteed in butter. Serves 8 to 10. Serve it the day it's made.
