COCOA BROWNIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients. Mix in. Stir in nut. Spread in well greased pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches. Bake about 30 minutes. Cool and cut in 2 inch squares. Makes 16 brownies. If you use self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
