COCOA BROWNIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. Gold Medal flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees (moderate). Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients; mix in. Stir in nuts. Spread in well-greased pan, 8x8x2 inch. Bake about 30 minutes. Cool; cut in 2 inch squares. Makes 16 brownies.
